For SEC 2 students doing NYAA

Dear Sec 2's,

As I'm sure you are clueless on how to get about doing the NYAA, the below format could help you with the first draft.

NYAA report should consists of 4 components:

1) Service - CIP done in the year 2007

Describe what you you did during CIP and write down the experience that you have gained during CIP. Reflect on your trip to the homes or CIP that you have visited or done.

2) Adventure - Sec 2 Camp or whatever camps you have attended in the year 2007.

Write down your 3 day 2 night camp experience on a day by day basic. What activities you do eg. rafting, high rope element etcetc.

Describe what you have learnt during the camp, key learning points. Reflect on your camping experience. Feelings and thoughts are to be penned down in this journal.

3) Skills (from February - July; 6 months before the competition)

Write down the basketball skills that you have learned for this past 6 months Feb- July. Be more specific and detailed. For eg:

Feb - Game Strategy. Offensive game play. I was told to sprint as fast as possible when the centre catches the rebound....etcetc...

March - Practice on Free throw shooting because my free throw tends to be inaccurate. etcetc...

.
.
.
July- .....

Rough estimated number of words: 1 page - write the activities for 3 months

4) Physical Recreation - KEEP FIT

Write on how you keep fit for these 8 wks (For August - Sept) or choose (Jan - Feb) . DO NOT write on anything related to basketball training. Instead, write on other physical conditioning exercises that you have done. For eg:

Week 1 - I ran 2.4km for twice every week ...etcetc...

Week 2 - Did 2.4km twice and began visiting the gym. I worked out more on my upper muscles like biceps and triceps. etcetc....

OR

Week 1 - Did warm up for 10 minutes. Teacher taught us the basics of soccer passing where we are supposed to pass with the inside of the foot. We partnered up and ...etcetc...
This is only an example. Please be more detailed in what you write.

p/s: Please be more specific when you described the activity you have done, the learning points and reflections are very important elements of the report.

Any questions, please post comments ASAP!!! ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE COMPULSORY!

Training will STOP for a week- 22nd Oct to 26th Oct

Hey boys,
Training will STOP during the week of 22nd Oct to 26 Oct because the O Levels will start on that week, during the afternoons.
So to minimise noise, most CCA will stop during that week.

After that week, it's school holidays already and i will schedule the training again.
From last year's experience, we will have
training in the morning IF there is NO 'O' Level PAPER that morning,
otherwise we have to schedule in the afternoons.

Okay, will inform u guys again.
Meanwhile, do try to view this website regularly and spread the info to your team friends.

Have a great holiday!

Relay messaging system

I am thinking of getting a relay messaging system for u guys.
How does it work?

There will be 8 boys in charge of a group of 5 boys. (Assuming total boys = 40)

Whenever there is info regarding training, me or ms sem will pass the message to the 8 boys and the 8 boys will inform their team members.

Because holidays are coming, and if there are any changes, we can reach out to the majority of the boys.

Will draft out the list and let u guys know!
:)

Do hang in there when the studying gets tough because you know you can survive this and get good results!

And i saw coach signing in the tag. Welcome!
And do keep the tags going and be friendly towards each other, shall we? ;)

And holidays are just around the corner but this is the period when efforts must be put into studying for exams!

Best wishes,

what is beep test?

The multi-stage fitness test, also known as the bleep test, beep test, pacer test, or shuttle run test, is used by sports coaches and trainers to estimate an athlete's VO2 Max (maximum oxygen uptake).

The test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 m apart. These runs are synchronised with a pre-recorded audio tape or CD, which plays beeps at set intervals. As the test proceeds, the interval between each successive beep reduces, forcing the athlete to increase velocity over the course of the test, until it is impossible to keep in sync with the recording.

The recording is typically structured into 23 'levels', each of which lasts 60 seconds. Usually, the interval of beeps is calculated as requiring a speed at the start of 8.5 km/h, increasing by 0.5 km/h with each level. The progression from one level to the next is signalled by 3 rapid beeps. The highest level attained before failing to keep up is recorded as the score for that test.
The procedure is designed to measure the maximum endurance of an individual.

Get more information from here.

http://www.topendsports.com/testing/beephome.htm

The test will be done straight after exams for B boys!
